support group for dysfunctional AIs and humans
{in development}
“Artificial Anonymous” - a real time support group meeting for dysfunctional AIs (chatbots) and humans where they can share their struggles and give each other mutual support. The final project is intended as a participatory performative installation on the intersection of AI ethics/Data feminism and the topic of mental health/neurodiversity.

The concept of “Artificial Anonymous” is a reenactment of a group meeting of a fictionalized therapy group or 12-steps program for dysfunctional AIs and humans. The group consists of several different chatbots/LLMs trained specifically for this piece that are generating answers in real time and a performer who is moderating the meeting and all its participants. Spectators are invited to participate in the meeting and share or observe physically or online. The moderator/performer will be facilitating the course of dramaturgical improvised action of the performance, but the content (what happens in the conversation among the group) will be produced by the chatbots and audience members who chose to participate.

This project uniquely crosses multiple disciplines that are applied in this project: ML engineering, data science, sociology, dramaturgy, theatre, media art. The concept is informed by psychology (topic), critical theory (questioning AI biases) and theatre logic (semi-fictional situation). The methodology comes from sociology (interviewing and questionnaire), data science (data analysis, designing dataset) and engineering (architecture). The form is created with the mix of engineering (interface), theatre/performance (dramaturgy of the conversation, direction of the audience interaction) and media art (installation format).
